Frequently asked questions

Who has to make the RIDDOR report?

The responsible person. For an employee that is usually the employer; for an injury to a member of the public it is the person in control of the premises where the work was carried out.

How are the seven days counted?

From the day after the accident. Weekends and rest days count, and the report is due within 15 days of the accident. Absence or restricted duties of more than three days must be recorded even when it is not reportable.

Does the checker send anything to HSE?

No. Nothing you enter leaves your browser. Reports are made on HSE’s own online forms, which the result links to.

Is the answer legal advice?

No. It is a guide based on HSE’s published guidance on RIDDOR 2013, which applies in Great Britain. Where a case is close, read HSE’s full wording before deciding.

Is anything I enter saved?

Nothing is uploaded, sent or stored: your answers are worked out in this browser and gone when you leave the page. If you accept analytics cookies, we count when the tool is used and a PDF is made, never your answers.
